Time-Tested Installation Techniques

We are extremely proud of the knowledge and dedication that our hardwood flooring specialists use each day. They use a variety of installation techniques, each with their own stylistic and long-term purpose.

Nail Down Installation (also known as Staple Down installation)
As the name implies, each strip of flooring is nailed or stapled down to the subflooring. This application requires the subfloor to be plywood or gypcrete with sleepers system.

Glue Down Installation
Strips of wood (or engineered wood) are glued directly to the subflooring underneath. This application can be used over concrete subfloor (above grade), gypcrete subfloor (radiant heat flooring) or plywood subfloor. The glue used is high-grade and can last decades with proper care. Your new flooring can be walked on and moved into the following day.

Floating Installation
While some types of hardwood floors may require gluing, others can be locked together using a built-in locking system. If glue is required, it is used to connect each strip of hardwood to the next. The pre-finished hardwood essentially "floats" over a cushioned padding underneath. This technique can be used over most types of subflooring.
